A Boston woman will be summoned to court after she left her 1-year-old child alone in a hot truck, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
At about 11 a.m. Saturday, a state trooper found the child in the vehicle illegally parked at Houghton’s Pond, which is located within the Blue Hills State Reservation in Milton.
Authorities said the trooper was patrolling the area when he saw the white Chevrolet pickup truck parked in the fire line. The vehicle appeared unoccupied with its engine running.
The trooper approached the vehicle and saw the 1-year-old in a car seat on the front passenger’s seat. As he opened the driver’s door, the trooper reported that he immediately felt an excessive amount of heat and discovered the heater was set on high. The child was conscious and alert and began to cry.
The Milton Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to evaluate the child, who was later transported to Boston Children’s Hospital for observation.
State police learned that the vehicle was left unoccupied for about 25 minutes while the child’s mother, a 24-year-old, was setting up for the child’s birthday party.
Authorities said she was issued a summons ordering her to appear in Quincy District Court on the charge of reckless endangerment to a child.
The woman’s name will not be released until she appears in court, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
