An F101B fighter plane was forced to abort a take-off due to engine flare-out. As the plane entered the overrun of the runway, one landing gear collapsed.
The plane had two auxiliary fuel drop tanks under the wings. When the gear collapsed one tank impacted the runway and ruptured. Suit is brought against the tank manufacturer and aircraft manufacturer. The first action is based on negligent design of the tank and tank walls, the latter on negligent positioning of the drop tank on the plane. There were no impact injuries to the pilot, who died solely from burns from the spilled fuel from the drop tank.
