The plaintiff was driving a 1967 station wagon down a major highway. Her husband and small daughter were asleep. The plaintiff accelerated the car to pass another car.

 

She suddenly lost control of the steering and the rear of the car began to swerve from side to side. The car crashed and the occupants were severely injured. Expert testimony established that the column support and clamping system of the steering system were unsafely designed and improperly assembled.[28]
