Aerosol Explosion; Plant Design

A manufacturer of highly flammable aerosal sprays designed a pump room in their plant so that gas valves, which had the potential to discharge highly flammable gasses, were in close proximity to numerous electrical sources of ignition. On one occasion flammable gas escaped into the pump room and was ignited by an electrical source, causing a major explosion injuring several employees. A subsequent investigation by OSHA found the plant set-up to be violative of OSHA regulations and the employer was fined.
