A 16-year-old high school senior was playing quarterback for his high school football team.

 

As a result of being tackled he suffered severe head injuries. Investigation showed that the plastic helmet he was wearing was cracked and was insufficient to absorb the shock of his head hitting the ground after the tackle. This design defect may be responsible for scores of head injuries suffered by high school football players each year.[73]
