DANVERS, Mass. — Many hairstylists and barbers across Massachusetts are ready to return to work on Memorial Day. If you’re ready to get your hair done, there are a few things that may have changed since your last appointment.
“I know it’s going to be great, it’s just going to be getting used to this new way of doing things,” said Ashley Twitchell, a stylist with Fantastic Sams in Danvers.
There are some guidelines that may make the experience feel a bit different as salons and shops can only operate by appointment only.
Twitchell said the basic changes at her salon include:
Everyone must wear a mask
Wait outside until your appointment
Come alone and limit what you bring
During shampoo, as a courtesy, limit talking and just relax
If you’re sick, reschedule
Most salons and shops have similar rules. You may be subject to a temperature check as well, and some are asking customers to sign documents verifying that they are not experiencing other symptoms of coronavirus.
Of course, what employees are doing is changing too.
“We have masks and gloves and glasses and smocks, new cape in between for every client, disinfecting everything in between every client,” Twitchell explained. “We have eight stations and there are four of us that work there, so we are only going to be working two at a time so that way we have plenty of space and we can keep everyone distanced.”
