Antibiotics; Deafness

A baby girl aspirated meconium during labor and delivery. She was treated with kanamycin sulfate for twelve days.

This drug is known to be toxic. As a result the child suffered a profound and permanent hearing loss which was not detected, and therefore not treated until her third year.
