The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that BMW of North America is recalling about 2,642 of its X5 and X6 sport-utility vehicles. Several models of 2012 BMW X5 and 2013 X5 and X6 SUVs are equipped with a diesel engine which may leak power steering fluid. If the flammable liquid sprays onto hot engine exhaust parts, an engine compartment fire may occur.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that the leaking power steering fluid is a result of a “machining error” in the steering gear surface during the production of these models.
