The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) filed a complaint against Zen Magnets LLC, of Denver, Colorado, alleging that their products contain defects in the design, packaging, warnings, and instructions, which pose a substantial risk of injury to the public.

It has been reported that when two or more magnets are swallowed, they can pinch or trap the intestinal walls or other digestive tissue resulting in acute and long-term health issues. Magnets that attract through the intestines result in progressive tissue injury. Such conditions can lead to infection, sepsis, and possibly death.
The complaint alleges that the Commission has received reports of young children and teenagers using similar products to mimic piercings of the tongue, lip, or cheek which have resulted in incidents where the product is unintentionally inhaled and swallowed resulting in said injuries. The hazards relating to small magnets have been a concern for years; consumers should never purchase such products for use in a household with young children, despite the fact that manufacturers and retailers still sell such products for the home environment.
