On Monday, June 11, 2012, a 9-year-old boy was attacked by two pit bulls in Pittsfield, MA. The boy suffered wounds to his head, arms, and face as a result of the attack. Part of the boy’s scalp measuring 3-inches by 3-inches was torn off in the process, and he received 35 teeth and nail puncture wounds.

The circumstances surrounding the incident point to how very dangerous certain untrained or unrestrained dogs and other domesticated animals can be. The boy was reportedly walking with his mother into their multi-family home when they came across three dogs, owned by another resident, in the common area. The dogs violently and ruthlessly attacked, dragging the young boy down the stairs. After the attack, the dogs were quarantined during the investigation.
Dog attacks and bites, particularly involving certain breeds such as pit bulls, have unfortunately occurred with alarming frequency.
