Only 5 months after a security service was discontinued at a high-rise apartment building a tenant was murdered. The building’s owner and management company made the change due to due to budget cutbacks – after these cutbacks, police were visiting the residence on a regular basis due to criminal activity.

However, without security service, tenants’ only remedy for suspected criminal activity was to call the police and wait 20 minutes until their arrival. Owners and management of premises, especially in areas with histories of safety issues, have a responsibility to provide the needed level of security to protect tenants and their visitors.

Inadequate security litigation focuses on inadequate, or in some cases nonexistent security solutions which play a role in permitting criminal activity to proceed unabated, leading potentially to serious personal injuries or wrongful death.
